42 Technology consultant joins Envirowise’s ‘designtrack’ initiative
Dr John Loveluck from 42 Technology Ltd, the rapidly expanding product development company based in Cambridgeshire, has recently been appointed to the panel of designtrack as a Cleaner Design Consultant.
Designtrack is a new Envirowise initiative, the joint DTI and DEFRA programme managed by AEA Technology Environment and NPL Management Limited, which helps UK businesses improve competitiveness and profitability through environmental best practice.
Designtrack offers a free, confidential site visit by a specialist design consultant which focuses on reducing the whole life environmental impact of a specific product. This product is examined and its manufacture is analysed in depth, as the consultant identifies where product re-design or material substitution may be appropriate. An implementation plan is them recommended.
Designtrack focuses upon helping the electrical, electronic, automotive or engineering industry adjust their practices to the demands of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive).
The aim of designing cleaner products is to reduce the use of raw material, eliminate hazardous materials, reduce the consumption of energy and water, produce less waste and increase the service life of the product and its ease of recycling. For example, the advice given by a Cleaner Design Consultant to a company in the electronics manufacturing sector could seek to make compliance with the forthcoming Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive easier. |
