Dr John Wilkes

42 Technology’s new team to be led by ex-Sagentia consultant

Product design and development consultancy 42 Technology (42T) has brought in a senior-level consultant specifically to build and lead a new in-house resource for client projects requiring advanced electronics and embedded software, particularly for instrumentation and mechatronic products.

Dr John Wilkes joins as a senior consultant to help create innovative electronics products and to further boost 42T’s profile and sales in increasingly important sectors such as point-of-care diagnostics, telemedicine and more energy-efficient devices. Before joining 42T, Dr Wilkes was a lead consultant with Sagentia for over seven years.

“We are delighted that John has decided to join us at such a critical point in our development. In the past we’ve hired in specialist electronics skills when required but a surge in new business wins has encouraged us to expand our offer and build a dedicated 42T team. John is the ideal person to head up this new initiative: he has an excellent track record in advising and working with clients at all levels and in creating market-winning products for consumer, business-to-business and industrial applications,” said Howard Biddle, managing director of 42T.

Dr Wilkes has over 18 years’ electronics industry and new product development experience in major markets including consumer audio, safety-critical avionics, fuel-cell technology, biological instrumentation and medical devices. Before taking up his previous position with technology management and product development company Sagentia, he ran his own product development consultancy with a focus on medical and scientific instrumentation. His achievements there included introducing innovative cardiac monitoring and bio-sensor devices, as well as geo-physical surveying equipment.

He has a PhD from the Cavendish Laboratory and a first degree in natural sciences from King’s College Cambridge.
