Dose Counters are required by FDA guidelines for new aerosol inhaler (pressured metered dose inhalers or pMDIs) products so that patients have advance warning of when to renew their medication. What is needed is a very low cost simple mechanism, which is almost totally reliable and robust.

42 Technology has patented its own novel mechanism comprising just 5 working parts that accurately counts the number of doses that asthma sufferers have taken from their inhaler. Thew device uses a modified Sully escapement mechanism, used for centuries in clock making.

The mechanism was specifically designed for easy low cost manufacture and can be produced without expensive, high tolerance moulded components or complex assembly processes.
