A manufacturer of electrical and telecoms connectors with whom we have worked since 1997 needed a full design and development service. Inventions by 42 Technology include a BT phone plug which won’t snag its lever, a tiny modem adapter and a folding UK mains plug which will fit through a letter box.

The challenge with the folding plug was to produce a design which would pass the stringent demands of BS 1363. The most obvious solution of folding the pins would result in failure under test due to heat rise at the pivots. Our solution was to fold the entire plug in half! This successful design makes a huge difference to the distribution of small electrical and electronic goods which can now be simply posted.

It is said that “the devil is in the detail”; so, often, is the profit! The simple idea of connecting the lever of BT plugs back to the body so that they wouldn’t snag and break off is patent protected and won our client important sales with BT.
