Our client approached 42 Technology with the wish to improve snack food manufacturing process performance, and in particular throughput of an existing line, with minimal investment, while maintaining product quality.
There was a large exercise in understanding the constraints and considerations of the manufacturing process. Several methods were explored on correct cutting and portioning of the product. Using physical testing and our fluidics expertise, we characterised material behaviour in extrusion and the deposition process.
We identified a range of opportunities, from low cost quick wins through to more fundamental and novel process development, as well as proposing technology transfers from other industries.
The quick wins could be implemented by the client’s engineering team, demonstrating real results in a minimal timescale.
